Notary Service
When a document has to be recognized in another country, such as a power of attorney for property overseas, a single-status affidavit for a marriage abroad, a diploma or corporate record for an international transaction, it usually needs an apostille. An apostille is a certificate issued by the Pennsylvania Department of State that authenticates the document for use in the 120-plus countries party to the Hague Convention.
Here’s where I fit. The apostille itself is issued by the state, not by me, but the process starts with a correct notarization, and a defective one gets the entire package rejected and sent back. I notarize your document properly, with the right acknowledgment or jurat, complete and unambiguous, so it clears the Department of State the first time. I’ll come to you, and I can walk you through the sequence: notarize, submit to the state for the apostille, and, for countries outside the Hague Convention, the further legalization that may follow.
I’m Christopher J Abt, a Pennsylvania notary public, Commission #1470081, operating as ChesCo Notary. I’m not an attorney and can’t advise you on your document or issue the apostille myself, but I’ll make sure the notarization is done right. Bring a valid government-issued photo ID and leave the document unsigned until we meet.
